Upgrade my 5,1 Mac Pro or build i9 for HDX

Hello all.

I've been using a 2012 6 core Mac Pro 5,1 with SSD and 32gigs RAM combined with HDX since 2013 and have considered upgrading it to:

*12 cores
*pcie adapter for with M.2 drive
*Faster video card
*Mojave

But, I'm also a serious gamer/Sim Racer and recently installed Pro tools 2020.3 Ultimate and my HDX card on my gaming machine and it works amazingly well! I've tracked a couple of bands no problem with 3 to 4 seperate HP mixes using Avid I/O and DSP plugs only.

Specs:

i7-7700K
Gigabyte Gaming 7 mobo
32GB RAM
Gigabyte Gaming G1 Geforce 1070 GTX
M.2 OS (Windows 10 Pro)

So...
I'm thinking now that I should just build an i9 instead with these specs:

Intel i9-9900k
GIGABYTE Z390 DESIGNARE
Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB
EVGA GeForce RTX 2070
Samsung 970 PRO SSD 512GB
Windows 10 Pro Retail

I know the PC would be more expensive but is more future proof.

I like either PC and Mac - been using both for 20 years and have custom built and optimized PC's for all of those years while having Macs and Amiga in the house since childhood.

The Mac Pro would be still useful for something else such as Logic Pro or maybe a Pro Tools extension computer with VI's or something for the tracking room (another room in my house hehe)

Basically I want to know who has been in this same situation and glad that they switched, or did you regret it?
