Question Digi003 Host light OFF

Hi there,

First time poster, so bear with me.

I am running a Mac Pro with ProTools LE 8.0.3 and a Digi003
My Digi003 has been giving me the following issues.

When I launch ProTools, the HOST or 1394 light turns on properly. However after playing any session for a few seconds I recieve one of several error messages - usually relating to 'invalid clock source' or '-6079 Lost communication with audio interface'. I have also had times where the HOST light blinks every few seconds.

I've searched the DUC far and wide, my issue is similar to this post: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread...n+lost+contact

..however I still haven't found the solution.

I've tried suggestions from different DUC threads such as reinstalling ProTools, trashing preferences, swapping with a new firewire cable, different firewire cable arrangements, etc. Should I try resetting the firmware on the 003, or is that unrelated?

I contacted a local Digi Authorized Repair Center and the repair man thought the 003 may need a replaced motherboard (not the exact term he used), or possibly a new firewire port. Do you agree, does this sound like the a hardware issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've exhausted my limited knowledge of Digi troubleshooting, and am hoping I can get this issue resolved without spending money on repairs that I don't have! Thanks in advance.

I have a Mac Pro Quad 2.66 with 003 Rack. I was having the same issues. I found that when I started using the Firewire port on the front of the Mac Pro, my "losing connection with audio interface" went away. I think it must be an issue with the firewire buss on the Mac Pro.

Question Re: Digi003 Host light OFF

Unfortunately switching to the front FireWire port on the Mac Pro didn't solve the issue. I also got a new error message this time:

"A FireWire bus reset was detected. Please check FireWire cables and power to FireWire cables. -6090"

Did you HOT Swap???....You should power down the mac and 003 before switching. Try powering both units down. Then turn on 003. Boot up Mac with the Firewire cable in the front port. Maybe even try a different or new Firewire cable. Post back your results.

I powered down the 003 but not the Mac Pro. Is that considered a HOT swap? I've read some horror stories about frying parts by doing so today. It's possible I did a HOT swap in the past that resulted in this problem, as I did not know what HOT swapping even meant until I started researching the problem today.

I powered down both units just now as you advised to no avail. Still got a -6097 error followed by the HOST light turning off.

*Also, I have tried three different working FireWire cables.

I don't know if this will help. Turn everything off. Unplug everything from computer. Unplug computer from wall. Wait about fifteen seconds and plug computer back in. Boot computer back up. Plug in one at a time. If you have an external drive that's firewire then plug that into the port you were having problems with. See if that helps. I don't know if I helped at all or just got you more frustrated.
