Default Popping Sound In Speakers

Hi,

In order to get my system working properly (no more 6085 errors) on my original Mac Pro, I plugged from my audio drive to the mBox 2 Pro to the FW400 port on the back of the Mac (no power cord/AC cable). Then I have my video drive going FW400 to the front port of the Mac. Now whenever I power up my Mac and mBox 2 Pro starts to light up and I hear a big pop sound through my speakers (doesn't matter if the volume knob is all the way down). Same when cutting thing off and shutting down the studio. How can I stop this speaker popping intro and outro?

- Original Mac Pro 10.5.8, PTs 8.0cs, Mbox 2 Pro, Genelec 8020s.

Thatz sorta common...only way to get that to stop is powering up without having the Mbox connected...

You could put the speakers on their own power strip so you can easily turn them off and on. Or feed them thru a monitor/source selector like Samson C-control(cheap), Mackie Big Knob(better) or Presonus Central Station(even better) as all of those would offer a handy MUTE button. They are also handy for lots of other stuff too(so you aren't just buying an expensive MUTE button. I use mine(Presonus) to select between 003 analog, 003 SPDIF, CD player, Computer audio or Yamaha Motif(on the source side), and 2 sets of speakers with/without a sub on the output side.

Don't know if this will help but your MBox 2 should be after the drive in your daisy chain. Comp-Hard drive-MBox.
Your set up read like Comp-MBox-Hard drive.
Try re-ordering the devices on the rear FW400. It may not fix your particular problem but it is the recommended method, FWIW.

Got cha. However, I just go passed the infamous 6085 error with the original Mac Pro and found that the only way to utilize my FW800 Roc Pro drives was to go USB2 out of the Roc Pro to FW400 of the Mbox 2 Pro. Then FW 400 of the Mbox 2 Pro to FW400 of the Mac Pro. In other words the Original Mac Pro likes the FW400 ports and does not want you be mixed in with FW800 ports. So I guess that's my justification for being "backwards" with my setup. I'll ponder another way to do it while still avoiding the 6085 errors.

Thanks!
