Default RE: USING FTP from Mac to Win

My songwriting partner and myself need to send sessions back and forth between a Mac and a PC.
I assume I can use a ftp to do this. Would I just send the "session file backups"? and can I compress the files? I hear Monkey Audio is a good music file compresser. Any experiances you have had using a ftp to share sessions would be helpful. Thanks

Is this over the web or do you just want to network the two different platforms?

Cheers
