Default Problem recording guitar

Hi all,

I'm just new to pro tools and I'm having a problem recording guitar. I'm using amphub but have the same issue with 'Eleven'.

I can record the guitar but when I click the stomp box on for a distorted sound I hear it but it's not being recorded. When I play back the recording it's like only the dry signal was recorded and amphub is still being applied to it live if that makes sense?

I'd like to just record some ideas as demos and I'd ideally like to just record the wet signal. Is there some kind of automation setting I'm missing? Or does it need sent to a different channel?

Sorry I'm very new to this, I've just come from Ableton where I mainly used midi so new to recording audio and also to pro tools.

Any help greatly appreciated as I've looked up loads of tutorials but no-one mentions this.

Thanks :)

Hi, welcome to the community.

First is a deprecated product. Could you try Intro instead? Also take a look at the Help Us Help You page that is linked to header of every page here.

Hiya,

Sorry, not sure what you mean about a deprecated product, I'm using Pro Tools Artist that I've only just purchased a subscription for. I've tried searching these (and other forums) for a couple of days and am completely stuck on this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ah so you posted in the Pro Tools First forum and PT First has been discontinued and was very limited

You should have probably posted int the regular Pro Tools forum.

That said , and if I am understanding your wording (which the bold is a bit confusing )

Also first to clarify #A you are using amphup as a plugin "Insert" directly on the guitar track, correct ?

Quote:

Ok so it sounds like you are saying you can hear amphup effect while you are recording correct ?

So when you say "amphub is still being applied live " do you mean that ::

#1 when you playback the recording you can hear amphub being applied ?
OR do you mean ::
#2 when you play back the recording you cannot hear it being applied ?
If you mean #1 then that is normal If #2 then something is wrong

NOTE :
In Pro Tools the normal way plugin's are handled is they are being used in Real Time non-destructively ... i.e. they are playing but are not printing to the track, so that you can change anything = any setting , change the plugin, or add an additional plugin without effecting the original source recording file

The effect will however print to the track when you either ::
#1 You "Bounce the Mix"
#2 You select the FX in "Audio Suite"
#3 You select track "Commit"
#4 You create a new audio track and route the output of the original track with plugins on it,,, to the input of the new track and then record arm it and hit play (many engineers refer to this as a "Print" track
