Basic midi sequencing question
I am learning sequencing on PT (coming from a MPC) and have a very basic question I can't find an answer to.
How do I play a midi note exactly as it is recorded in either the MIDI Editor or the MIDI Event List? In other words, I want it to play for the exact length of the midi note according to the midi data. Right now when I click on a note, it plays for as long as I hold the click, not the recorded note length. If a note is 0.3.451 in length, I want to hear it played for that duration, not just until I release the click. How is this done? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Basic midi sequencing question
Thanks for the response. However, I watched the entire video (both parts 1&2) and it did not address my question. The closest thing I saw was him selecting notes with the grabber tool, but when I do that it is playing them for a fixed duration, not based on the actual midi note length.
Sorry if this question is really basic, but I haven't been able to find an answer yet and have spent some time looking. What am I missing? |

Re: Basic midi sequencing question
I don't remember that ever being a feature of PT. In sequencers that do that, it always annoyed me, so I'm glad PT doesn't do it. Maybe for those who find it helpful, it could be a preference. Something for the suggestion box.

Re: Basic midi sequencing question
You can stretch the midi note for as long as you want it to be. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by fixed length.

Re: Basic midi sequencing question
the midi note does play exactly the length; as Tlennon said, U stretch it to play as much as needed so that it plays what u need...

Re: Basic midi sequencing question
What I think zero is talking about is when he clicks and holds a MIDI note. As far as I know it plays the note for as long as you hold it, not the designated note length. This is mainly so that you can audibly place the MIDI in the right place, not to preview how it will sound (to length).

Re: Basic midi sequencing question
Yeah. Don't know any way around that. I guess you'll just have to hit 'play'.

Re: Basic midi sequencing question
The short answer is, you can't. The feature that allows you to highlight or click on a particular midi not in the midi editor is there to allow you to hear the note and move it to either a different note, or a different spot in the time line. I'm not even sure why you'd want to audition an individual note just to hear its length any way. That would seem to only make sense in context of the entire sequence, which is what play back is for. You can highlight a short segment of the midi track to play back and just listen for that one note, I guess.
