Default wave plugins still being written for tdm?

I was browsing youtube for the introduction of new plugins and found this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJKSp...eature=related

Nice little plug in, but at the very end he mentions that it's native or tdm........

Hoping that just a lapsus and he meant AAX dsp there.

I don't think so. Waves isn't on board yet. Haven't started coding for AAX. haven't decided what to code first.

Avid reps are dissatisfied with Waves. Waves reps say as soon as possible but no actual plan. They are going to be taken for a ride by the little guys on this one.

Manufacturers currently coding for AAX according reps at AES:

Sound Toys
Soft Tube
Eventide
Sonnox

SSL native rep asked me if I wanted to see AAX so their still getting feedback from users. Izotope thinking about it.

EDIT - I demoed Bass Rider - Definitely not AAX.

Actually I just stopped an order to Waves based on the lack of a desired response about their overall plan regarding AAX.

I already have a very significant investment in Waves products, and I'm hoping now that I won't be forced to abandon it, all within the next year.

Well, they will all make AAX plugins unless they want to go out of business. I just don't know if I'll make the jump. It's a pretty big blow to loose all of my hardware and all of my plugs in one year. Not fair really. If plug in developers take Avid's lead, the upgrades will be expensive, and I have a lot of them. I've been playing the game fair; I own all of my tools. A grand for the 10 upgrade and another two or three for plugs will really suck, and I'm still stuck with obsolete hardware. Not so good.

Based on the response of some of the early AAX plug-in coders, I'm hopeful that plug-in upgrades will be very reasonable. I would also assume that Waves will use the standard yearly WUP as the model for adoption of AAX. I don't know this, but I am hopeful.

That's the Bass Rider which has been out already for a month or two. They wouldn't have mentioned AAX in their literature for it before PT10 was announced. I'd give Waves a moment or two to pull the AAX thing together. They have until PT11 before TDM is officially not supported.

Even if I had the money to upgrade the PT hardware & software there are other variables like the 3rd party AAX plugins to consider. I am sure that eventually all the major plugin manufactures will be on board. But IMO this transition is going to take some time until it full matures (9-12 months maybe). My hats off to the early adopters. . . . .
