Default Beat Detective- extra measures

I have only use the Beat Detective a couple of times- so I'm not very sure of it's proper use.
Here is what I've doing for this project.

I have an old recording done with no drums- originally don't on ADAT and transferred to ProTools.
I want to add drum loops and do some editing, so I need to get the proper temp, measures etc.

I added a 'beat' by tapping it in with an old drum machine live, while recording the audio.
I used 'Beat Detective' to analyze the audio and it seemed to give me beats quite effectively (should have, only audio on the beat).
BUT- in a few places there are extra beats, in between the recognized beats.

I don't get it.
any ideas? (This time is a little flexible, and I may have some mistakes- but this is really off)

You just have that first BD tempo marker doubled.
Double-click that tempo marker and type in half of 159, 79.5.
Should fix it.

When I double click the marker, it just opens a location- bars/beats (which is correct, bar 1, beat 2)
No way to enter in half the number shown on there.

Beat Detective did those, so it must have goofed up somehow? Or my settings?

How do I change that number.
I can't seem to find good documentation on Beat Detective, although it is probably in there someplace.

I appreciate the response.

Mark

The blue tempo marker that says 159.0909?
I'm not at my rig right now, so I can't check, but it should let you type the tempo.

Have you tried Youtube? I thought there were lots there.

Nothing I've found in Youtube (so far) that did what I was trying to do.

Plus it seemed to work, just added some extra beats in about three places. But that screws it all up and I can't find a way to manually edit that.

And yes, the blue triangle marker.
It just opens a location, but the actual location is correct, just ProTools added another beat. Strange.
But I'm probably just not understanding how it works.

EDIT:

I tried changing the third beat to say it was on the third beat (rather than what Beat Detective assigned, fourth beat) and it fixes that one, but just moved it so the next one is wrong.
I could fix it, but it would take me forever to go in and edit every single marker!
Must be a better way than that.

Oh yeah, the title should be 'Extra Beats' but I can't seem to edit that.

Sorry. I'm kind of retired, and rusty when it comes to tempo-mapping.
I hope someone else can be of help.

I appreciate the input and trying.

I may have gotten another way around this- but it would be good to know what to do.
Seems it should be a pretty easy fix.

thanks
Mark

Hey Bud,

Hard to decipher what you're doing without hearing it. From what I can see, I'm guessing you're highlighting the entire 'drum machine' audio and using BD on that?

If that's the case, that can make measures fall in an unpredictable manner. Try only selecting 8 bars at a time.

Do you know the tempo of the original recording? I personally would try to Clip gain the original audio, then BD that audio to build a tempo map. Again while doing this only do about 8 bars at a time. That way you can catch it if it's getting away from you.

If you know a general tempo already, and this is a guitar/vocal track; Elastic audio may be a better option to tighten things up to an average tempo.

Default Beat Detective- extra measures

If Beat Detective is inserting extra bar/beat markers, you haven't defined the proper bar/beat length prior to generating the bar/beat markers.

I would avoid BD altogether and simply use the identify beat command and go bar by bar. Much more accurate, and will be much faster.

BD can work ok sometimes for this purpose, but it rarely does what people think it will do.
