Default Blue 192 IO's

If all the DSP is on the card and the blue 192's are just a glorified converter / IO break out box I cant see why Avid could not have them still work with the HDX card. . . . . that could have soften the blow of the upgrade price and a new card.

They work with the HD Native interfaces, don't they? Maybe there's hope...

Do the newer IO boxes work with the HD TDM cards?

Yes.

The old 192's will also work with the new TDX cards in Pro Tools 10.

Pro Tools 10 doesn't break anything. Pro Tools 10 is meant to bridge the transition between the old hardware and plugin formats with the new ones. Nothing gets dropped until PT11.

So then you are saying that the old 192s will work with an HDX card until PT 11 is released?

That's exactly what I'm saying.

I guess for the life of me I can not figure out then if the 192 box is just an IO and the card is all the processing why did they make it so that the 192 will not work with the HDX card once PT11 is released. Isn't all of the DSP taking place on the card. Personally I think that they could have made this possible.

Eventually it just comes down to support.

The 002 is the perfect example. It's not technically supported, but because the 003 drivers are basically identical, then it should still work for just as long as the 003 does.

I imagine the same approach will come with the 192s. I don't think installing PT11 will suddenly make them not work, but they will no longer be a supported hardware configuration for that system. In the same way that people use 3rd party I/Os like Lynx and Apogee. You can use it, but don't call Avid if something goes wrong.
