My questions are very general. How can I connect all this with each other...I have a little idea but first I would like to listen to your opinions....

YIKES!!! That's a lot of nice and expensive gear for someone that has no idea how to hook up(you're a good friend for trying to help). Truthfully, your friend might consider paying a real PT system guru for this, as there's a lot of room for screwups here). My best advice is to wade in slowly and read the instructions twice for each piece. I would start with just the HD/Native card and 1 HD IO. Once that is installed and you are able to actually open/run a session, leave everything else out of the picture for easier troubleshooting. Who spec'd this package? I am confused on why there would be a Yamaha mixer, when you have the Euphonix control surfaces(unless the Yamaha is to be used as 16 mic preamps). Personally, I might have made some slightly different choices, but since its all new, I suppose you can decide that and maybe return a few things. For instance, you got the ISA828 with the digital card, but you have HD IO units with all analog inputs. The 8x8x8 model would be cheaper and then the ISA digital card could feed the digital inputs. I'd love to help more, but its just too complex for the forum.
