Default Quicktime .mov files display white frames in pro tools

Hello all,
I am having issues with using a .mov in PT for post production editing work. I noticed that when I import the video file into PT and try to play, all the video window displays is white frames. Infact even when trying to play the video with JUST the quicktime player OUTSIDE of PT it seems to display only white frames of video as well (although the sound is audible as the white video plays). The only way I am able to view this video file is when opened in VLC player. I am assuming that this is some kind of codec issue? I tried to convert the video with quicktime pro, but during the conversion I got an error and the conversion halted.

If anyone has any suggestions at all I would greatly appreciate it.

You need a codec for the video.

Ask whoever supplied it to you what Codec it uses and find a downloadable version somewhere.
