Default No sound during playback after crash and reinstall

I can't find this specific issue on the forum search, so I am seeking some help here....getting desperate at that!

I am still using PT LE 7.4 on a Windows XP platform (ancient, I know....)..going to upgrade soon, but I really need to get up and running.

My hard drive crashed and was repaired, and PT reinstalled, but now when I pull up one of the files I was working on in the recent past I get no sound during playback, although the finished WAV files play fine on Windows Media Player.

Is this a driver issue, or, if I need to reinstall PT, will I lose my saved songs?

My hardware was adequate enough to run PT fine prior to the crash, so I won't list everything. I feel it's a driver issue, perhaps, but I just don't know.

Can I still get drivers for 7.4?

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Try resetting your I/O to default in Setup.

Cheers,

BTW, you won't lose any of your recorded songs when/if you ever un-install, re-install PT not least of all because you are recording them to a separate drive than C: right?

In all versions of Pro Tools BEFORE 9, the drivers are part of the installer. Did you run the installer as per the instructions, or did you forget about that and let Windows do it automatically(like most other programs)? What the Weed offered is certainly a possible solution too. Also, since you are fussing with the setup(and we have no idea what it consists of), you might re-trace and double check all your cabling too(its pretty easy to mis-patch outputs)

Actually, I had my neighborhood tech do it for me, so I'll have to double-check the I/O in setup and then check the drivers, which I'm leaning strongly towards being the issue..........I was able to play older recordings in WMP, so I know my cabling/connections should nopt be the issue, but you know how that goes- I will disconnect and reconnect everything and see what happens when I do these things.

Thanks for the input all!
