analog tape deck and pro tools...sync question??

Hi, I'm thinking about getting a analog tape recorder for getting better guitar sounds and know nothing about how a reel to reel syncs to pt. If a tape machine uses smpte, how does that work with pt and what other gear would I need. Currently, I have an hd core and 192.

You will have to purchase a universal slave driver from digi if you want to sync to PT from a reel to reel.

Additionally, If you purchase a machine that does not have a direct timecode sync capability, you will need to strip SMPTE timecode on one of its' tracks. Then take that track's output as timecode for your protools Sync unit of choice.
