Man, does anybody happen to know the composer of the great old Errol Flynn movies?
I have missed the credits by a split second my whole life, but the music is incredible. I want to say Alfred Newman (and no, not the dude from Mad Magazine).
Anyway, he could really tell you what to think with his music. An actor's walk across the room was a tiny symphony. His music was exceptional, magical to me.

Hi Roy,
It was Max Steiner who scored Don Juan and Erich Wolfgana Korngold scored Robin Hood.
But for more info on Errol Flynn movies try this link (after selecting a film goto "full cast & crew): http://us.imdb.com/Name?Flynn,+Errol

Or any other movie: www.imdb.com
Great Site !!

PS. I must add Ennio Morricone, the great old Italien Composer.

Greetings

I know it is kind of cheesy, but the James Horner theme for Star Trek 2 Wrath of Kahn is amazing. It sticks in my head for hours.

Other cool scores:

Thomas Newman-American Beauty
Hans Zimmer-Gladiator
Howard Shore-Lord of the Rings
Eric Serra-the Fifth Element

Tamer,

THANK you man! It was likely Mr. Korngold who's name especially eluded me, simply because it's a little complicated to remember. In ONE of those movies (I think Bette Davis played the queen), the leading lady sung a song while playing the lute. I saw it last year, and that song is incredible. The chord changes are just SO fine. I mean it would be a great, great song even today.

While I'm rambling, one other thing I've realized about the power of music... Say we're talking about 'On the Waterfront' with Brando. The music, to me, is as strong as the acting in that movie. The recurring theme, the heart-wrenching strings MAKE the drama what it is. It's a glaring example to me of music's power to tell us how to feel.
I mean, sheesh, imagine "I coulda been a contenda....I coulda been SOMEbody..." without that killer music.

I know, I know..... calm down, Roy.... gettin' just a leeeeetle too dramatic...

Two movies come to mind...I like the scores in these. Cape Fear. The music is used in both the original and the remake. Don't know who did it but it's cool.

And The SHINING. Creepy. Eerie. Just plain intense. Remember the opening helicopter shot? I can hear the music now and I need my blankie. Score by Herbert Von Karajan.

Hey Stu!
Yeah, believe me, Jackson mentioned ol' Jaws up above here. I remember after seeing that movie and walking outside the theatre, my buddy turned to me and said, "I have NEVER been so glad to be on dry land in my LIFE!"
