Default Unsolvable Grey-Out Problem, please help.

I'm running Pro Tools 10 on my Macbook Pro 2.7GHz Intel Core I7 with 8gigs of RAM and running 10.7.5.

I have a song that has multiple tracks where the clips as well as the entire lane the track runs across in the edit window is greyed out. The frustrating thing is that some of the tracks that are greyed out still play, and some of them don't. There is waveform on both but some won't produce anything on the track VUs.

At the same time I'm getting tons of digital scratch sound from playback issues that it's becoming unplayable. It's not due to file size because it happens on even the smallest of songs and largest. I run an external hard drive that's always been plenty fast enough to keep up. It's also not my playback engine settings, i've tried just about everything I can with changing the delay compensation and level and sample rate. It's driving me insane. The only thing I can think that has changed in my setup is that I recently plugged in my TD-3 Electric Drumset via Midi into my Profire 2626 (the interface I'm using). However, the drum set isn't even turned on and I'm still getting this issue.

Both of these issues are driving me insane, so any feedback is appreciated. Thank you.

Part of your problem may be 10.7.5 - Avid has still not qualified PT10 with that version of Lion. See if you can back date to 10.7.4.

It has been running fine on 10.7.5 for a long time. This is a new issue that wasn't the result of any update.

Tried usual troubleshooting? Trashed prefs & dbs, etc?

Have you tried importing session data from the suspect session to a new one?

Tried the session template. How do I trash the prefs&dbs? That's unfortunate because I spent a lot of time setting my prefs how I like em :/

Get the program at this website: http://www.jcdeshaies.com/
a lot of PT users swear by this program.

Seems I have to reset my prefs weekly for some reason. Not a big deal to reset them really. You might want to try a clean reinstall of Pro Tools to solve your issue.

Default URGENT! NOBODY seems to know the answer. Random grey tracks???

Can someone please explain to me what this is:
http://jakedavis.us/pro-tools-error/...at-5-44-32-pm/

I'm running PT 10 on an I7 Macbook Pro with all maxed out factory custom settings. Yet, I constantly have files that become plagued with this problem.

I'll pull up a session, and randomly, a track (or multiple tracks) will be greyed out. It can be instrument or audio (in my most recent case, see link, it's an instrument track). And even more frustrating, sometimes these greyed out tracks play audio, sometimes they don't. I have another file that has half of the drum tracks grey but the audio still plays so I haven't messed with them.

Note the the clips (aka regions) are not muted and I've tried muting and umuting them it does nothing.

So my question is, why is this happening, how do I fix it, and how do I prevent it from happening again. I've googled my face off over this and nobody seems to even be asking about it.

Thank you very much.

EDIT: One fix I found in this case was to duplicate the track minus current and alternate playlists and then to copy paste the midi clips from the first one to the duplicate and it played fine. Of course, there's no reason I should have to do this and that that should fix the issue. This has to be an absurd and unacceptable glitch on Avid's part that is not being recognized or patched.

It is in that screen shot. I have no idea what is going on here.
