Default Strip Silence & Compact selected.

Strip Silence & Compact selected.

I’m mixing a lot of cartoons in Scandinavian languages.
Dialog comes on AKAI DD 8+ HD´s or MO disks.

I’m recording (thru ADATBridge), 8 tracks at time in real time with M&E coming from
Tascam DA-88, to 24bit session.
After transferring everything to my HD´s, often (for backup purposes) I will perform
Strip Silence & Compact selected.
The session will as expected became a lot smaller but: - if I chose to drag any region with
the Trimmer tool, I can drag it to at minimum the next region, or the session length.
There will be a lot of audio from others tracks in not particular order.
It’s not a problem but it worries me. That same happens if I delete silence by hand & than
choose Compact selected. I’m using standard settings (padding set to 1000ms).

My system runs on PM 9600/300 & consist of: PT|5.1.3cs8, Mix with 2 DSP farms &
2 AD-8000 + ADATBridge & div. AKAI & TASCAM 8 tracks with TASCAM, “IF-TAD”,
TDIF-ADAT format converter. Everything syncs with Machine Control to whatever (Video).
The House clock consist of Rosendhal Nanosyncs, & there are some MTP-AV´s & SSD.
I have seen the same behavior with PT|5.1 thru 5.3.1cs++.

Kurt,

I've read the following several times:

"but: - if I chose to drag any region with
the Trimmer tool, I can drag it to at minimum the next region, or the session length.
There will be a lot of audio from others tracks in not particular order."

and do not understand what you are trying to say...?

Are you trying to drag with the Trimmer tool?

Do you have the Edit Mode button set to Slip? Or Shuffle?

Maybe try to restate the problem...

Hi timcissell.
There is not so much to misunderstand.
If the region after Compact selected became 10 s. long,
than I´m not supposed to could drag it one hour either way, or?

If you've ever Recorded in Quick punch mode you'll get the same thing. You end up with regions, not descrete sound files. Try it Record Do a few Short Recordings in QuickPunch mode then take the last one and expand it backward. you'll see the previous recordings as if they were all part of the same sound file. I suppose it's just the way Digi has to do it for whatever reasons. And yes, I too was unsettled by it. It's just the way it is.

Ya… I’m selecting what ewer, 90 min. than press Alt & Space, than Apple & space & go home.
My DIGI Beta with M & E & AKAI DD8+ starts & PT take those 10/12 tracks in ONE go.
There is NO stop. The files can be reduced to 1/3 (dialog) after compact selected.

What worries me is that expanded portions include audio from other tracks in not particular order & how can compacted file become bigger?
I have other strange issues & want to start some place. DIGI?
