Default Issue installing protools LE8 on windows XP

I just purchased protools le 8 from the digi store and when i downloaded it everything was fine until i got through the installation process. when i reboot it lags on the welcome screen and then switches to my desktop but shows no icons, then displays this error message
"paceregister returned an error. error 3".
so i click okay and then it loads my desktop icons and everything is fine til i try to start protools then it displays
"the application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d) click on ok to terminate the application"
i click ok and the dialog box goes away and a second one with the same text appears, i click ok it too disappears and protools obviously doesent start up.
im pretty sure i did everything properly. i uninstalled protools 7.4 like it said. then installed the new protools8 and it happens all over again. i even reinstalled 7.4 and everything worked rite in 7.4 but then i uninstall 7.4 again to reinstall 8 and i get the same issue, "pace register returned an error error 3". can anyone shed some light?

Welcome to the club.

You probably have an Athlon XP processor, right?
Look at this thread, DIGI is working on a solution:

No. To go to Intel you'd need to buy a new motherboard. So if you do that, I would reccomend just building a new machine.

I am totally blown away that Digi didn't test PT8 on AMD machines.

We did - we have several AMD machines that this works fine with. It appears the problem is with certain AMD processors (we didn't test ALL of them - just not possible) that claim to comply with SSE specs, but that actually don't. The problem isn't with Pro Tools - it's with processors that do not do what they claim to.

My Intel Core 2 duo-based box is also exhibiting this problem. IE8 is not installed.

HI SW, ...01-23-2009, 03:18 PM... That was then. When a signature changes it goes retroactive.
