MBOX2 connecting hardware

I am trying to connect a Really Nice Compressor to an MBOX2.
I want to slightly compress vocals by having the RNC in line between the mic and the MBOX2. At present I can't seem to get phantom power to the mic. I wonder if I am using the correct cables. I am using TS cables. Could anyone advise on how to achieve this and the cables and connections that should be used. Also if I wanted to use the RNC as an insert in a track or to compress the final mix, how should these connections be made. Many thanks.

You cannot connect the RNC between your MIC and the MBox2. The RNC has line level inputs and would need to come after the preamp. Since the MBox2 does not have inserts, this is impossible. To do what you want to do, you would also need a separate preamp. Then it would go mic->preamp->RNC->MBox2.

The MBox2 also does not have the capabilities to use outboard gear as inserts for Pro Tools (for final mix, etc). For that functionality, you would need an MBox2 Pro, 002/002R, or 003/003R.

You cannot do what you want to do with your current Digidesign hardware.
