Default Re: AIR Instrument Expansion Pack 2.0 will NOT have Upgrade Path & IEP 1.x may be EOL

I own PTIEP and Komplete. I use the Air plugs to mix it up a little every now and again and would be happy to upgrade at a modest price, but to buy it again with the other tools I have is just a no brainer.

No chance.

You would think they would do everything they could to hang on to their existing customers. Do they not realize that none of their stuff is really all that good? It's all just "OK" with much better alternatives. For example, even with its supposed close integration with PT, Structure was not better than Kontakt . it doesnt have the same sound libraries or 3rd party support and was actually a bit clunky and awkward. Strike obviously doesn't compare to Superior, BFD , slate etc. I could go on.....

So if I was Air, i'd come up with some sort of upgrade pricing just to keep us all around at a "oh what the heck" pricing.

Probably sums up my thinking! Maybe kaiserpathos could get back in touch with Mr. Morris and explain that, possibly out of misunderstanding (not helped by itchy PT11 fingers!), existing users on DUC are getting wound up, so could they please clarify if a 64-bit AAX V1 will be released free-of-charge? If Native Instruments are reading this + planning an imminent AAX64 release, they could do worse than offer a competitive crossgrade deal to IEP users for Komplete 9!

I agree!

I sent this thread to Mr Morris asking him to pursue info for us if he can, and requested someone with AIR update this thread or send me email.

Wow I barely sent a link to this thread, asking for AIR to clarify, and got a response from the good Mr Morris:

As I mentioned previously, Airmusictech is now part of inMusic Brands and no longer part of Avid.
The version of the Pro Tools Instrument Expansion Pack you purchased is sold and supported by Avid.
The IEP 1.0 that you referenced is an Avid product and will not be updated for PT11.
Once the Pro Tools Instrument Expansion Pack for Pro Tools 11 is available you will need to purchase it as there is no upgrade path from the Avid version that you purchased.
As indicated on this page the Air Instrument Expansion Pack is for Pro Tools 11 only.

So AIR is basically putting this all on Avid for not saying a thing about IEP 1.x retirement, as far as PT11 is concerned.

My response to Mr Morris, Customer Success Specialist:

Thanks for the clarification and quick response. So, unless Avid pays inMusic/AIR to support/update Pack v1.0 -- it is end of life and done as far as PT11+ is concerned.

That's a real disappointment for a lot of IEP customers: Avid never announced 1.0 as EOL. I fear that, unless launch/intro pricing of IEP 2.0 is really reasonable, NI Komplete and other solutions will be considered over it - based on nothing but this experience. I guess that's not entirely AIR's fault, just saying.
At any rate thanks again for the clarified info.

Easy enough... I'll just buy a velvet type VI that will work with 11 from someone else that will grow it. I stopped using the others some time back.

If this must be repurchased to be used in PT11, all of our sessions here will simply be run without PTIEP content.

Interesting it depends on how you read AIR's reply !

What this makes clear then is V2.0 is a full price application with no upgrade path from Avid products. No ilok needed (that's what it says on the website) and is made/sold and supported by AIR. They do not support V1.0, thus you cannot upgrade from it.

V1.0 though is sold and supported by Avid (Not AIR) so has anyone asked Avid if they are developing AAX versions for V1.0 prior to EOL ? If so then could this be the free AAX upgrade that was suggested on the Pro Tools Expert site, but I would add to Russ’s credit he did say it was ‘as he understood it’ so it couldn’t be taken as Gospel. Whatever though even if V1.0 was ported to AAX by Avid it looks like that's the end of the line for that version of the product.

If a representative of Avid would like to step up to the mark and clarify this, it would save a lot of grief !

Cheers
