Default easiest way to change tempo for midi trax??

hey all and happy holidaze!!

i'm lookin' for the easiest way to change tempo on midi trax recorded at a tempo that i've decided is too slow. this is what i know and have tried already...

1) edited the midi trax while in 'region' view. it worked but the pocket did not lock after the edits. now, i know it was my editing skills that were lackin' since i tried it more as a test then tryin' to be sample accurate but i feel like that method is definitely prone to error or just a lot of nudging and re-nudjing.

2) created a new session...created all new empty INST or MIDI trax with the grid set to my desired tempo...imported the desired trax into the region bin...dragged the imported midi trax into the new/empty trax and presto!! new trax at the right tempo BUT then i had to re-setup all the instruments and plugins (tho i did import the non-instrument plugins)

3) next method...created new session. set tempo to desired bpm. then did an 'import session data' from original session. worked like a charm, new trax created and ALL plugins imported BUT the tempo was the original tempo. and i did not import the tempo!!! while i did not expect the audio trax tempo to change, i did think the midi trax would be altered??!!!

what am i missin'?? or is option 2 gonna be the way that's required??? PLS ADVISE!!! thanks...mykhal

Make sure that the tracks Time-Base selector is showing Ticks and use the Add Tempo Change button.

one other question...i actually took the original bass audio track from PT into LIVE and changed the tempo. then brought it back to PT. i know i could have used TC/E in PT but thought LIVE's time stretching was better??!! is there another method in PTLE 7.1 that you think is comparable to LIVE's quality with audio time stretching and compressing?? thanks again!!

Sorry, I can't really help you with that one, mykhal, I don't use Time Expansion/Compression plugs, personally I'd re-record the audio.

yeah, will definitely re-record when production is at that point. but now, just in pre-production and building/writing/constructing the track. for me, easier and quicker to use the tools when tempo is the only issue. thanks again. you definitely helped me become more efficient. peace...mykhal

If that's the case, use Digidesign's TC/E or Serato's Pitch 'n Time. For a more professional usage try Waves Time Shifter.

WAVES SOUNDSHIFTER (parametric plug-in) is slammin'!!! LIVE5 definitely has its' pluses but SOUNDSHIFTER gets my vote for ease of use, not to mention the quality of the output. great tool!!! thanks once again...mykhal
