Default automation question

For some odd reason my plug-in is not writing data. However, I can write it manually. I simply add the parameter I want to control in the plug-in automation window, set the track to auto write, as well as highlight plug-in for automation enable and nothing. I have done this successfully before; now I am witless...
Thanks, Chris
