Default Hardware Insert Delay Comp Issue

Ok, I have a 002 console. I am trying to measure latency for my hardware inserts.

Here is what I am doing:

(delay comp on)
I drew in a "pop" in an audio region with the pencil tool. I took a patch cable and routed it from output 5 on my 002 directly to input 5. Put IO 5 on an insert on the track with the "pop", routed that tracks output to a new audio track and hit record.

Pro Tools 9 compensates automatically without me having to enter a value in the IO setup. With my buffer at 512 samples, PT reports 2142 samples of delay on the track with the insert.

So now, the problem.

When I do the same as above, but on my Apogee Ensemble which is hooked up via lightpipe to my 002, the "pop" is recorded 1ms early! The track reports the exact same delay as above. Are the Apogee converters just "faster"? Can I adjust this somehow?

ADC does not compensate for 3rd party hardware delays. You can enter a value in the manual offset for ADC on the Mixer Window or enter a value in msecs in the I/O Setup.

Yes I know, but since the signal is "early", I would need to enter a negative value, right? This you cannot do.

Ah, I got it. I just entered the amount of samples that it was early the the +/- field on the track. Works perfectly now.

Still, the recording shouldn't be early, I've heard that it is a bug.

Imagine if you could record things before they happen. (Theme from Twilight Zone plays in background...)
