Default Playback engine & Input monitoring

Why is it that the number of voices/DSPs doesn't get saved with the session? I recently had to up it from 96/3 to 128/4, and I get asked every time I open the session if I want to use 128/4?

BTW - I swear this has something to do with the fact that I've just started having the audio print track monitoring input at all times.

BTW #2 - since I started using input monitoring on the print track, I can no longer leave the session open over night. When I get back the next day, PT is mindnumbingly slow and unresponsive, and I have to quit and reboot. Today, PT wouldn't quit either, so I had to force quit.

Thoughts on the subjects?

?
That's because it IS saved with the session :)
You probably saved that session while your setting was 128/4, but now you're using 96/3 on some other stuff, right?

Or am I completely missing it? haha

I probably should've said that it doesn't get saved with this session. I've been working on the same session for days. I've done many Save As..., but that shouldn't matter at all.

Oh, and I misread the error message. It actually is saved with the session, but PT acts as if I've been working with 96/3 prior to opening this session, which I most definitely haven't.

Aaaaah okay, that's indeed a different story...
Hmm... nothing really comes to mind apart from doing "the obvious" I'm afraid (thrashing prefs etc...).

Maybe try to make a new session and import from the old one?

Stig, I am very curious. Why do you leave the session open overnight? thanks, ff

I'm confused. It doesn't happen anymore. Doesn't matter if I save with input mon. on or not. I've tried to
  • save with input mon. on the print track, quit, restart the CPU, open the session
  • save without input mon. on the print track, quit, restart the CPU, open the session
Then I think it's when I leave PT open and idle overnight with input mon. on that is the culprit, because when that happens I have to (force) quit PT, restart the CPU, open the session again, and that's when I get the error message.

I have the studio in my house, so I often choose to leave everything on so I can get right down to business in the morning. Besides, the gear keeps the control room so warm and cozy.

I've never trusted walking away from PT for more then a few minutes. Too many potential 'force-quit must restart' situations, not unlike what you're descirbing.

Gear, yes, PT Session, no.

Really? Don't think I've had any issues before, but like I said, I've just started leaving input monitoring on at all times. Other than that, I haven't changed my workflow at all.

EDIT: Also, it's not normal that I have to use 128 voices/ 4 DSPs in my sessions.

All is good now. Have had one session open for days with 128/4 and input monitoring on, and PT behaves normally. I've been informed that there's been several minor power/electricity dips a few days ago. Since I don't have all my equipment connected to a UPS, I believe this could be the culprit.
