Dolby delivery specs

Hi all,

Some things to run past those in the know, haven't delivered in surround before so just want to make sure i'm not missing anything. Relating to the delivery spec......

Ch 1thru 6 = 5.1 English comp. (discrete) - am i right in saying these are my 5.1 full mix stems as wavs and not encoded ac3's?

Ch 7&8 = stereo english comp. (LTRT Pro Logic) - this is my pro logic II encoded ac3 of the full 5.1 mix downmixed to stereo?

Our install company spec'ed the Neyrinck Soundcode for Dolby Digital plugin BUT since the 5.1 comp. is discrete (and not encoded ac3) should we not have been spec'ed the soundcode for stereo LtRt plugin??

I know there's some good threads on ac3 layback to HDCAM SR on the forum already, so once our Sony deck is hooked up i'll try out all that stuff.

1. Yes, they're not AC3s, it's the 6-track full mix.

2. It's not an AC3, it's a full bandwidth LtRt (surround encoded 2-track).

Yes, you need soundcode for LtRt.

AC3 has pretty much nothing to do with delivering multichannel sound for TV, it gets turned into AC3 on transmission only.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation/info - was getting very confused about ac3's and all that. So are you generally never asked for ac3 encoded material? We still haven't received the full digital delivery specs (only what needs to be on the HD master tape) so is it a case that the soundcode for dolby digital is redundent in our case?

I've never been asked for ac3 or seen it as a delivery spec. only use it for making dvds with surround internally and in that case use Apple's Compressor which comes with Final Cut.

You may be asked for a Dolby E stream in the future.
