Default Waves Problems with delay compensation

Hi folks, please ignore signature (how do I change that!?) I've upgraded to Pro Tools HD Native Thunderbolt running in a Mac Mini i7.

Weird things are happening with Waves Plug In, especially on Master Bus. When I turn delay comp off they disappear otherwise I have mad flamming drums even if I'm just using a compressor on the master fader?

Anyone else getting this?

Thanks.

Hi,

With delay comp on or off it shouldn't make any difference at all on the mix bus? in fact you can turn ADC off on the mix bus.

It sounds like some of your drums are routed directly to the master channel and not through the mix bus, hence why turning of ADC is causing some drums to arrive at the master channel at different times / flanging etc.

So what's your routing here? All tracks going into master output and you're talking about plugin problems with that master fader?

Or...

Do you have drum kit tracks going into drum kit aux that goes to the master output? Do you do parallel processing with the kit?

If you feel that the ADC is broken, then here's a workaround:

1) create another aux for the rest of the tracks and place same plugins to that aux as well, compared to the drum kit buss. bypass the plugs so they do nothing, but both auxes would now have same plugins, thus same latencies.
2) if you do parallel processing, repeat the trick there as well. so the comp buss and vanilla buss would have exactly same plugins, only having plugs bypassed where not needed. this way things should be just fine due to busses having same latencies.
3) unfortunately, if there is an ADC problem, you probably have to repeat this trick with all the tracks going into busses as well. welcome to the pre-6.4 world

Do this and if you get all latency issues sorted out then you know for sure that some of the plugins you use is really causing the trouble.

Hi and thanks for the posts.

Sorry I shouldn't have said flamming; they are just delayed . . .out of time

I'm using Superior Drummer 2 routed to the master fader (as is everything else) with L3 UltraMaximiser on the Master Fader.

Interestingly I just tried swapping it out for some L2 limiters and there's no problem them.

Any thoughts?

L3 ultramaximizer has a really long latency. Use the "LL" version (low latency).

I get that but I can't understand why it only becomes a problem with Delay Compensation on and how it only has an effect on the drums only? Could it be that the system is struggling as a whole with the delay comp on so SD2 is struggling to keep up?

If the delay compensation "goes red" all kinds of strange things can happen. Just open the delay compensation view to the mixer window (from view settings) and see if everything is okay.

And that LL version really is not that bad. In fact I never use the big latency version but always choose the LL version.

Like JFreak said, sounds like you may be maxing your ADC setting. Select a larger compensation setting in the Playback Engine dialog.

Also, interestingly, I too prefer the L3 "LL" to the original. Since Waves added that in I believe V7 I haven't used the original since!
