Default Asus P5B Mobo

Anyone using this mobo with an Intel Quad?

I'm curious about the optical drive install. My understanding from Asus is that you can use an HDD IDE cable to connect an optical drive to the RED optical input on the Mobo, near the SATA connectors. However, after trying 2 seperate DVD/ CD drives, I can't get the BIOS to recognize either one, and therefore cannot boot to Windows for the OS install.

Any advice?

Cheers,

~ J

Is the JMicron controller turned on in BIOS?

I beleive the IDE controller is run off the JMicron controller.

It is, set to "IDE".

Any other thoughts?

Maybe I can't use an IDE optical? Maybe it has to be SATA?
