Default Re: Universal Audio Neve DFC plugin

Hi all,
To add a little clarity....

We didn't model the DFC, the plugin IS the DFC.

From the manual:

This plugin brings DAW users unprecedented access to those exact same DSP algorithms that have been used on thousands of feature films and TV dramas over the last 20 years.
DFC uses floating-point DSP processors as does the UAD2 platform and so the DSP is mapped exactly, instruction for instruction even down to the interpolation processing used for co-efficient transition.
The plugin was developed at AMS Neve Headquarters in England by the DFC software development team; David Critchley, Stewart Wonnacott and David Hawkins (AKA Jack).

Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

Hello UA! I've never considered buying UA plug-ins because it required the purchase of UA hardware. I want everything I own to be on an iLok. Give me the sales pitch about why the hardware is necessary- especially in this age of powerful computers. Thanks.

I'm not a sales guy but...... :)

Hardware is needed because our plugins run synchronously on our dedicated DSP chips. This allows very low latency operation on live inputs regardless of buffer size.

They also run asynchronously in your DAW augmenting your CPU.

As powerful as computers get, CPU+DSP will always be more powerful than CPU alone.

Cough.

1. Licensing

2. Licensing

3. Really great, well implemented plugins.

4. Low latency plugins in an interface.

5. Mublefart about CPUs not being fast enough...

(#3 and #4 justify UAD plugins, #5 should get a good laugh).

This should include a * b/c only on UA hardware with mic inputs....

Because low latency isn’t what you get with UA after tracking (with only UA hardware)

Don’t get me wrong - I love the plugs, but Low latency isn’t really what you get especially when tracking.

Well, its their business model.
Its only like Avid selling HDX cards and limiting the number of voices for Native.

Its a shame its not really viable for Post where we have to move around,
swap sessions etc.

The plugins are great. I wish they ran on the cpu.

Agreed. It doesn't make sense to make a plug that is geared toward the post market where essentially no one uses UAD. Would be great to be able to use the DFC strip, but I can't see all these mixers who are constantly changing studios to lug around hardware. UAD - please make this one plug run on CPU!

Live inputs are not relevant to a post sound mix which the DFC plug in is meant for...

I’d really like to try your plug ins but your tying into hardware makes it practically impossible. The cost is doable but if my session becomes tied to one box you just create a practical problem for me, not a solution as that session needs to move around.

I get the business model, but your sales for this will be much lower if you don’t let people run it native. It’s not suiting the target market in this format.

It will never be native, that’s the point !

It is not an emulation it’s the same algorthithm on the same Sharc DSP, just like the m6000 and the old MD3 plug ( the old HD card used the same dsp as the m6000 and the Neve).

Point taken. It’s still not suiting the way most people work in post....
