Default MIDI to audio

Is it possible to play an instrument track with recorded MIDI data (with an instrument plug-in loaded) and record that performance in real time to an audio track?
I have acomplished this using bounce to disk then importing the file into the Pro Tools session but it is very time consuming.

Thanks

Sure. Follow this procedure. (<-link)

Hi; thanks for the reply. The method in the link you provided works if I want to play the softsynth and record it to an audio track...It does not seem to work for previously recorded MIDI material with a softsynth loaded in the track.

Ummm.... yes it does.

Maybe I'm not clear about what exactly it is you are trying to do? Even if I'm not clear, that procedure should work for both instances; recording the audio from a previously recorded MIDI track or recording a live MIDI performance as audio.

What exactly "doesn't work"?

It's actually kind of weird...I send the signal of the instrument track out a bus then use that bus as an input for my audio track. When the instrument track plays, the bus shows a signal, but no signal appears on the audio track (yes I did it with record edabled on the audio track).
Also, when I go to select the bus as an input for the audio track it is not shown in bold as a bus that has been previously selected typically is.
Furthermore, if I then send that bus to an aux track, I can hear the audio from the softsynth from this aux track - If I now go back to select a bus this bus is now shown in bold as would be expected.

Are you in Auto-input monitoring mode or Input only? Sounds like Auto-input mode to me. Hit alt+k.

No problem. That was part of the instructions on the original link I gave you, BTW.
