I always check around in different shops, before buying a new plugin.

Lately 'everyplugin' and 'Plugindiscount' have been the cheapest.

And 'bestservice' have had some great offers, specially on Waves.

None of these got the best prices always, but everyplugin seems to be the overall best.

To each their own. I've never been a fan of the cold call approach, but to their credit - they are much less aggressive about that kind of thing than they used to be.

I actually used to actively avoid ordering from Sweetwater because I didn't want to encourage them, but nowadays it doesn't seem to be much of an issue.

Always had pleasant experiences with them, aside from the phone thing.

I still get a kick out of thumbing through that obnoxiously large paper catalog they send out once a year. The thing is the size of a phone book...

Audiodeluxe is the best I’ve found. They discount the plugins and they take discount codes from manufacturers like Waves.

The catalog is great when you’re taking a crap.

I like to buy plugins directly from the developers whenever possible ...especially when they are one man shops (Levels, dr. MS, etc)

I used to buy hardware from Sweetwater but never s/w. Now I've transitioned off of buying anything from them due to they don't charge sales tax. It's not that I like giving any government money it's just that I don't want to get in the middle of like what happened to Newegg customers from Connecticut. Newegg turned over their sales records to the state for tax collection purposes aka so the state could collect unpaid 'use tax' on out-of-state purchases.

+1. I wish they had a store here in Norway aswell (for hardware).

I usually buy plugins from where it's cheapest. Plugindiscounts seems to often have the lowest prices.

I've been happy with Sweetwater for many years. Yeah, you get the follow up call and an email now and then about new stuff. I've never been pushed by my rep but we all have different senses of what a push is.

I tend to buy SW direct from the manufacturer but I do get interested when folks mentions deals at Audiodeluxe or other places. Maybe I'll check them out. Then again I promised myself I'd stop buying stuff. It's easy to get into an addiction of sorts with software- at least is so for me.

Must..stop..

I buy direct a lot, especially since they started having sales over the last few years. But I’ve got to say, they company that tends to screw me over the most, financially speaking is IK Multimedia.

It’s not because they are rips offs or anything, but it’s because they are European, Italy to be precise. Unlike most other companies, even in Europe, where I pay in US Dollars, I have no choice but to have to pay in Euros. In Australia the exchange rate for US is roughly 25% extra, the Euro, is 35%. It’s a hell of a markup because I happen to be living in the wrong country!!

I have found, recently though, that if I go throu another 3rd party, like the ones mentioned, then I CAN pay in USD and save myself that extra 10%. Although an additional 25% is not ideal.

It’s not a huge issue when it’s a small purchase, but bigger purchases start to become problematic. Imagine, instead of $1000 I’d have to pay $1250... that’s a huge difference and quite unreasonable from where I’m standing.
