Default 002r Firewire busses going bad-This a known issue?!

Suddenly experiencing loss of firewire connection with my 002r. Have tried several sets of firewire cables and every buffer setting to no avail. Previously my setup was working fine.

I am know hearing through other sources that their is a 'known issue' with the firewire busses going bad on the 002r. This true? Anyone else have the same issue?

I have noticed this is starting to happen on my rig recently too (coincidentally since the 10.4.9 update actually) - up to then everything was fine - the firewire connection even drops out on small sessions.

hmmmmm.

Sounds like your issues could be related to updating your OS. I didn't do any updates and suddenly I can no longer even listen to iTunes without the 002r dropping it's firewire connnection.

I have seen comments about 10.4.9 not disconnecting to some hard drives.

Digi really meant it when they said not to use 10.4.9. It is not supported or approved.

I didn't make any changes to my OS or install any new software. 002r is suddenly losing it's firewire connection while using apps like iTunes or streaming audio as well as while simply trying to play a stereo file back in a PT session.

Just went through some troubleshooting with Digi (they were very helpful) but to no avail. Seems to me it's either an issue with the firewire bus or some kind of internal clocking malfunction.

Looks like next stop- Service Center

Isn't this the well talked about power harness problem? According to Digi publications this problem stopped as of the Rev G 002R's. According to other posters if it is the power harness issue Digi will send out a replacement for you to self install.

Out of curiosity how old is your 002R, i only got mine a month ago and this power harness issue is kind of a worry because if the 002R goes down mid project it's game over for me?

Cheers

Hi Dougfather,
'Upgraded' my 001 to an 002r back in November (wish I had known the 003 was right around the corner ). My unit has the power harness revision...not sure if that's good news for you or bad news.

Right now tech support is insisting it is a problem with my Mac Pro (OS X 10.4.8 w/ lastest versions of PT and Core Audio) and not the 002r. My rigs been working fine since I got it and I haven't made any changes to my Mac so not not sure what would've triggered this problem all of a sudden.

I've had a bunch of trouble with the same type of thing. I don't know what it is, but I sure wish it would go away. It's a bit embarrassing to have things just stop in the middle of a take like this.

I've had this problem for a couple months too, 002R firewire connection just terminates for no particular reason in the middle of a session, usually after it's been on for several hours at a time. Majorly annoying! I've been wondering if it was an overheating issue?
I'd sure like a fix for this. I'm on PowerMac G5 single processor, OS 10.4.3
So what is the "power harness" issue that Digi will replace? My 002R is about a year old, came with LE 6.9, I upgraded to 7.0

There was a problem in the early 002r with the harness that distributes power inside the unit. The new harness fixed the problem. Later units don't have this problem.

It's hard to point exactly where something fails. Is it the 002 hardware or software or a cable or the computer hardware or software?
