Word clock quandry

Hi all

Does an external clock source improve the 001 ADs more or less than a similar priced mic pre?

Which should come first, a good mic pre with digi out to slave the 001 to, or a good clock to slave both 001 and subsequent mic pre to?

Anyone got a definitive answer? It's a bit Catch 22 in here at the moment. [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]
