Problem between Mbox & Garageband & OSX 10.3.4 !
Hi,
I just bought an Mbox for my Powerbook G4 running under OSX 10.3.4. When I use the Mbox with Protools 6.4, no problems. BUT when I want to use the Mbox to record my vocals in Garageband, nothing! Also, when I go to the system folder to check the sound utility it recognizes that I have the Mbox BUT doesn't let the sound in!? The input level doesn't move at all, and there is no input level meter anyway. Am I asking something that is not available? I thought that the Mbox was suppose to work with Garageband. At guitar center they asure me that it should work, but couldn't figure out the problem. I would highly appreciate if someone knows the answer of this problem. Thank you in advance for your help. Re: Problem between Mbox & Garageband & OSX 10.3.4 !
to my knowledge, PT and garageband will not work together. if the people at guitar center told you they would work together through REWIRE, i believe they are mistaken, since both are REWIRE compatible, but both are host programs, and therefore cannot link (i tried this myself).
i would suggest predetermining a bpm for your song, and starting each at, say measure 5, for example. then play your stuff into garageband, save it as an audio file and import it into PT. the garageband file should sync perfectly to you PT song (assuming you correctly established the same bpm in each application). then when all is said and done, if you like, you can trim off those first empty measures of each track in PT and move all the track regions back to the beginning. hope this helps!! good luck RPB |

No, ProTools and GarageBand won't work together. BUT, you can use the Mbox as the audio interface for GarageBand, using the Digidesign CoreAudio driver.
At the top of this forum is some info about this driver. I just tested it, and had no trouble recording audio into GarageBand using my 002.

You certainly can use your Mbox as an audio interface with GB. Make sure you have the latest Core audio driver 6.5.2. In GB, go to preferences/audio-midi/and set the audio input and output to 'Digidesign HW (MBox)' Works fine for me. |

Yes - GarageBand and the mBox do work together.
Sometimes, I get some weirdness with the mbox and the digi core audio manager - check the buffer setting in GarageBand, make sure it matches the the digi manager setting. If i have been using PT then switch to another music app like GB - the mbox doesn't always work. A restart normally fixes it tho. I hope this helps. peace ---------- MacIDOL.com |
