OT: tranfer file from PC to MAC
Hello,
I need to transfer 1 big file (4 Gb) from my PC to MAC, I tried copy it into DVD but the Mac still not copy the file (stop after 2Gb), the Network of course can not help so what is the best way ? Note that I don't want to use RAR or cut the file in many segments ...any suggestion ? Will the firewire drive work ? if so, what's the format method for the FW drive ? (I tried UDF but not work either) Thanks and sorry for the OT Sonny |

Re: OT: tranfer file from PC to MAC
I may be out of date here so can completely understand any wrist slappings I may get but can't windows only support a maximum file size of 2Gb? Is it an OMF?
cheers

Re: OT: tranfer file from PC to MAC
I believe your limitation is the MAC OS. I think 2 gig is the maximum file size.
I know Pro Tools only supports up to 2 gig, and I believe it is because of the Mac OS. If it is an OMF ( obviously embedded )...you are screwed. You have to get the omf referencing external media. This way you have many media files and the omf sequence file.....as opposed to all media and meta data embedded in 1 giant file. Rob |

Re: OT: tranfer file from PC to MAC
What you can do is download a copy of dave from Thursby software Inc. hook both your pc and mac to a hub and then transfer the file that way.Or if you are running OS X on your mac you can configure the Somba patch,in order to see the pc on a hub or network. I hope this helps

Re: OT: tranfer file from PC to MAC
I'm sure OS9 only supports 2G file size. NTFS (NT4, win2K, XP) supports larger files with NTFS5.

Thanks for all the help. I have been told that Ethernet network will never allow files with bigger than 2GB transfer, so DAVE will be useless. I am sure there is a way to do that (transfer file bigger 2GB) even on OS9, I saw a post somewhere instruct how to do that but can not remember which forum. I gave up them, for now. Sonny |

Re: OT: tranfer file from PC to MAC
Hi,
The network doesn't care how big the file is. Honest. PCs running Windows XP can have files larger than 2 GB. Can't remember about older versions of the OS - anyone? Not sure about the Mac side of things, though. Again, the network won't stop you from doing this. Good luck! dave |

Re: OT: tranfer file from PC to MAC
Hello,
I do this all the time. Use one of this firewire drives. Format your disk in your mac. Install MacOpener 2000 in you PC. You will have a fast solution.
