Default 192 I/O e smux

Hi,

i hope this is the right place for this post.

today i went in a recording studio. They buy a system with 6x192 digital interfaces with a mac.
The person who sold the system was sure that he use it to record at 96k using adat port with smux.

i know that 192 don't support smux.
someone had never used smux using 192 interface??

because today i try it but don't work (and this is normal...)

If he was recording @96 that's why he was recording with 6 interfaces

But he don't need to smux b/c with 6 interfaces and the HD cards he had all he needed

I must not understand the question

Sorry, maybe is not clear my question.

the question is if it's possible to record from a smux adat@96k using a 192 digital.

i know is possible using aes/ebu, and i was sure that was not possible with adat in old digidesign interfaces because SMUX wasn't supported

Right, AFAIK no SMUX on the enclosure or digital card ports so clearly the SMUX claim is impossible. And since no SMUX, they could not have got 96 kHz through the ADAT port, but did the seller mean:

They were tracking sessions at 96 KHz using real time sample rate conversion (on the digital card ADAT ports, not the enclosure port)

- or that:

They were using the other 192 IO inputs at 96kHz.

Now somebody who is clueless could easily plug an output that said "SMUX" (but running as ADAT) into an ADAT input and see a Pro Tools session at 96kHz and be all confused.

But anyhow what's the purpose? Are you trying to convince the buyer to undo the deal? Sadly there is nothing new about somebody who may not know what they were doing purchasing something from a seller who may not know what they were doing, or who was being dishonest. Or it may just be a point that both seller and buyer really don't think is important. Either way, caveat emptor....

If he really clearly does not know how to answer your question, then the first thing I doubt is using ADAT to begin with. It is very easy to set up AES/EBU for 96k tracking so that's my best bet. Or he's using ADAT @48k and doing a real-time sampling rate conversion (but then he's not really recording 96k signals).

Thanks for your answers

yesterday i try, and i understand that the adat port near the spidif and stereo aes/ebu don't support smux but the ADAT in the slot near the d-sub AES/EBU suport smux.

su it work without problem at 96k too.

good!
