external clock at 44.1 Pro Tools 48? Trying to fix without results...
I've received some files that I believe had a clocking issue. The tempo plays correctly at 48. The pitch is correct at 44.1. I've confirmed this by launching the session at 48 and setting my external clock to 44.1.
I've tried just about every imaginable combination of importing session data and audio with a and without SRC and nothing seems to work after being saved in PT 11. Every now and then I get luck and it works but then when I reopen the session it's wrong again. Nothing in my set up changes... Needless to say this is really frustrating and I'm about to give up and tell the customer they have to recut. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've stripped my rig down to just one i/o without a clock just to keep this simple. Within workspace I've changed the audio files from 48000 (what pro tools thinks they are) to 44100. Then I've imported that audio into a new 44.1 session. No dice. The temp is now slow even though the pitch is correct. When I import session data (into a 44.1 session) without SRC (after changing the header in workspace) I can get the pitch correct but again the temp is slow. Anyone have suggestions? thanks a bazillion!!!!

Do a web search for Rail Jon Rogut. He has, or had, a Header Investigator that would, IIRC, allow you to change the Sample Rate in the header of the file.
Cheers,

Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like the app is still available but it's limited to Windows. I'll see if I can dig up a pc tomorrow and give it a try. I really though this was possible within the Pro Tools work space. Is there a reason why changing the SR in workspace wouldn't work? This is all mind blowing to me. I would have thought SRC or a SR change in the workspace would have taken care of this issue.

Re: external clock at 44.1 Pro Tools 48? Trying to fix without results...
You can't just change the sample rate in the workspace, it can only be done on importing or exporting files.
Here's your problem. Either the pitch is going to be right and the tempo wrong, or the tempo will be right and the pitch wrong. You cannot fix both of them because the file was recorded at the wrong sample rate. Here's the deal though. If the file was recorded at the wrong rate, so was the tempo. They might say it was 120 because that was what it was in their session, but it was really less than that since the sample clock was less. So here's how you fix it. Create a new session at 44.1. Import the original files, but turn off sample rate conversion. This will bring the files in at the 44.1 rate they should be at. Next, here's how to calculate your actual tempo. Take the tempo that they gave you, multiply it by 44.1 and then divide it by 48. That will give you the true tempo.

That method is getting stored in my tech docs folder. Nice one Jimmy.
