I am using protools free on a dell machine with what i feel has enough power to handle it. I am also using a lynx one sound card. when i start to record it reboots the computer. I have tried it on three seperate machines with all the same problems.

I guess this is place to post,

ProTools Free and ProTools Free 2

My machine reboots or blue screens if I try and create a project.

Compaq Deskpro EP 350
Korg 1212 IO soundcard
Windows 98

I was rather excited (almost) to try Ver 2, currently I use Cakewalk which can't sync to MTC *and* keep it's own audio in time.

I've had no problems with my setup.
Details as follows:
AMD K6-3 450
192Mb SDRam PC100
Asus P5ab Ali 5 Chipset
Voodoo3 3000 16M graphics
Soundblaster live value
The only problem that I did have when I first installed this software was when I had Norton systemworks running in the background. Kept getting system interupts messages and then halted. Switched that off and had no problems. I don't know if anyone has tried with minimal background tasks running like anti-virus etc...

Sunblaster and VIA chipset problem..

You are safe that they initiate the session to 48000? so that if they
begin it 44000 the system falls = (

Remember the Soundblaster's chip Emuk10k1 samplerate works on 48000 and protools LE free works in 44000 by defaul. Change this one and feel the power. That happened to me with my Sounblaster. Now, if you have
problems with chip VIA visit this website so you see works to them.

Just as to my =).

My system.

Soundblaster mp3 whit APS driver
Duron 750mhz
256 ram
Biostar motherboard whit VIA 686b chipset
QUANTUM ATA 66 10G

The bugs are dead.

Report regarding spontaneous reboot problems in PTFree second release:

I've installed PTFree at 3 computers at a radio/broadcast education studio I teach at.

Computers, soundcards as follows:

Machine 1:
Asus CUSL2 mobo, Celeron 667, 128MB RAM, Delta44 soundcard

Machine 2:
Asus CUSL2 mobo, Celeron 667, 128MB RAM, Soundblaster Live! Value soundcard

Machine 3:
VIA mobo, P3-450, 128MB RAM, Delta44 soundcard

All 3 machines suffer from the spontaneous reboot problem after about 1-2 hours of editing.

Machine 3 sometimes opens up with only to produce crackling sounds, coming from the audio files. When rebooting computer and trying again it CAN work if you're lucky.

Machine 2 cannot use 44100Hz (starts skipping in audio after about 1 minute usage), therefore I set all machines to 48000Hz.

Apart from these huge problems, it works ok

I have the same problem. The screen goes black, and then the machine reboots just as if I hit the restart button.

128MB RAM
