Pt 2020.5 video engine error no playback

So, there was a problem before with PT 2020.3 being unable to show videos with non ASCII characters in the file name - that's fixed.

Much worse, now when I load videos into PT 2020.5 (either new sessions or sessions from PT2020.3 or older PT12 version) two inexplicable errors occur:

1) the video does not play back - spinning beach ball followed by 'video engine was unable to stop (or was it start?) error message = video will not play

2) Video file part is short as displayed on the timeline, for example the audio shows up correctly at 1 minute duration but the video only runs to 30 seconds.

This is ....broken. Anyone else have this? can't be just me...

mp4. Off the top of my head I’d say h264 codec but would need to check.
In any case I can say this, it’s the same format I receive from my clients at NHK TV Japan week in week out for years and always worked on PT until the ‘non ASCII file name’ bug in PT 2020.3 (which is fixed)

But this bug is crippling. For now I have downgraded to Pt 2019 and both old and new sessions/videos loading fine

According to this article: https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...r-Pro-Tools-11, H264 codec isn't the best to work with. Maybe it isn't as compatible with more recent versions of Pro Tools. Have you tried converting the video to Apple Pro Res? I've always had good performance using it.
