Default footswitch problem mbox pro 3.

hi all,
i recently tried to hook up a footswitch to my mbox pro 3, with pro tools 8.
when i got to the setup-hardware menu, i dont get an option for the footswitch.

in fact, i cannot find anything anywhere about setting up a footswitch even though the manual states specifically to go to the setup-hardware menu.

i have tried 2 different footswitches, each work in other programs. is there an update i am missing or something?
i've tried plugging them in before the mbox powers on, after, during, etc. nothing. i cannot find any option for a footswitch.

please help. mbox pro 3, macbook pro 10.6
thanks
