PT 2020.5 playback lag with video

I just upgraded our machines here to Mojave and installed 2020.5. Now I'm getting playback lag when there's a video in the timeline. The longer the video, the longer the lag. When I off-line the video, everything works perfect. On a 2 1/2 hour long show, the playback lag is 4-5 seconds. It happens every time.

This is happening on 2 different systems. One previously was on El Capitan, the other Sierra, both used PT 2018 and everything was fine.

I've tried the usual suspects... deleted the blackmagic drivers, reset the pram, set system sound to internal speakers, played with all the playback settings, smacked the side...

I feel like it has to be something particular here, because if this was a PT bug, there'd be lots of folks screaming about it on this forum.

I recently upgraded to 2020.5 as well w/ Mojave and have had video issues that i didnt have in 12.6. Specifically, videos in 720. There seems to be some bugs around that. Not sure if its related, but do you happen to be editing to 720 videos? Switching to 1080 cleans things up for me.

I just checked, it's happening on 1080 as well as 720 videos. Bummer. That would've been an easy enough workaround.

Bummer is right, im just suprised that in this current state of Pro Tools, video playback is still an issue.

Update: I just rolled back to 2019.6 and the issue goes away.

Exactly what im doing, 19.6 works great for me. It seems that after this the video engine was changed to accommodate more aspect ratios and FPS.

Interesting. I have a support ticket in to Avid. I'll see what they say. It's pretty annoying that this sort of thing would happen. At least I have a solution, but I'd like to know what's going on. I'll report back when I hear from Avid.
