Question about older G5 / PCI vs PCIe...any info?

Hey all...I know this has probably been discussed before time and tiem again....but I suck at searching so if anyone can either answer me questions or point me to a link...that'd be great. Note that I did try searching first...

I am wondering if an older G5 (the 1.8 ghz) model is supported by digi. I'm buying a computer to go HD (currently on LE with laptop) sooo I want to make sure. It uses PCI slots...

My second question - what is the difference between PCI and PCIe slots? would I be better off searching for a G5 with PCIe? (noticeably better?) is it the same? worse? opinions? I really have no idea what the difference is (except you seem to need the "accel" card for PCIe as opposed to regular HD on PCI).
