Default Delay in Recording Mode

I have 16 tracks armed... when I hit the 'Record' button, I get the color wheel, then it takes several seconds before it actually starts moving... with only a couple of tracks armed its no problem... just upgraded to PT8...trashed prefs ect... any thoughts? Thanks,

Mac G5, 10.5.8, 2 GB, Rosetta 800 w/X-HD Card, Control24, HD2, PT's 8

The first time that happened to me I replaced one of my audio drives with a new one. That fixed the problem. About a month ago (it's been at least a year since I replaced the drive) it started up again. I backed up the drive I'd installed, erased it, formatted it and no more delay in recording mode.

the delay is Pro Tools pre defining/mapping out were it is going to record to on your drive(s)

so depending on how full/fragmented the drive is and if you have your Record Allocation set to Open Endend or for a set amount of time it can take longer to get going when you drop into record

That is the key. I think it is in Preferences under the Operations tab. I set mine to like 10 minutes and it greatly improved performance when I was in 8. There will still be lag though.

PT 10 gets rid of this lag completely no matter what your setting is. It is my favorite thing about Pro Tools 10.
