GENERAL Mixing advice???

I'm needing to learn to mix real well. My raw tracks are good and ready to mix. (ie, keeper vocals, drums, guitars, etc.)

I know how to automate the faders, and I know that you pan the guitars left and right. That's about it. I want this music to sound like big rock music. (Alanis Morrisette type thing, polished raw rock.)

Any advice?
