Default Max track Count

I ran into a new wall on my MixPlus system that I haven't seen before. There appears to be a rather low limit(64 voice engine) as to how many tracks can have voices assigned(from 1st bank of 32). I believe at right around 44 tracks I got a message that no more voices could be assigned. So the practical limit to virtual tracks is 88, not 128.

Peter (hi!),

I often am running into this problem as well, but never found it to be 88 (unless I'm wrong, which is possible . It seems that it's very picky which voices you try to assign double.

It seems that some confusion still remains here between voices and tracks. The track in your PT session is represented by a "channel strip" in your mixer or playlist in your edit window. The voice to which a track is assigned, is represented in the Mix and Edit windows as a button and pull down menu that allow you to assign your track to an available voice. Tracks that are not assigned to a voice can live in the session but remain "virtual". Hope this sheds some light, if not these concepts are covered in your Pro Tools Basics manual.

One thing that would help with this limtation is an update to Track Transfer. If the audio and/or automation could be transfered into the destination sesion without creating new tracks.
