dual monitor question

cant find it through searching, maybe someone knows?
if running a dual monitor setup, can you also run a single monitor when youre not using protools? say to send an email or type a document, when you dont need two monitors, can you just use your primary screen or do you always have to be using both if you have the dual monitor video card?

If you get get an nVidia card (with appropriate drivers), there are couple new maximize/minimize type buttons added to every window. They allow you to maximize the window to just one monitor, or send the window to the other monitor. You essentiallly treat the two monitors as one when using this.

You don't have to turn on the second monitor as long as you keep all your taskbars and important icons on the main one.
