Default 002 rack hardware not recognized

I am running a 002 I got that was on display at Guitar Center so it came by itself with no box and probably was configured to a firewire drive before. When I launch pro tools, which is the Academic Version 7.1.1 it tells me that it is unable to recognize any digidesign hardware. I believe it has something to do with firmware but I am not sure how to fix this. I checked the firewire drive (I think that is what it was atleast) and the journaling was enabled. PS this is my first post and I did search but am not able to utilize the site to its full potential so forgive me if this question is played out.

Thumbs up

1. Try different Firewire ports on your Mac.
2. Try another Firewire cable.
3. Make sure Firewire Networking is disabled (see troubleshooting thread).
4. How have you got the 002/HD/Mac connected-up?

If a firmware update is required, you're usually prompted the first time you launch PT.

Default correction

I meant when pro tools software is launched it does not recognize the 002 rack harware. I will get a new firewire cable, IM running a mac book and it only has 1 firewire port. Where is the troubleshooting thread you are referring to located.

Default Did more research and

My macbook operating system is Mac Os X 10.5.2 which this site doesnt even mention in the compatibility section of trouble shooting so I am assuming I need to run an older operating system. I will get on the phone tomorrow any recomendations of the easiest and most simple operating system to use with the 002 rack, assuming I am correct. Thank you

Sounds a bit weird that a display model comes with the academic version, surely it should come with everything as per the original unit less the box, i wouldn't imagine digi would approve of that?

You should be able to register the 002 online, do you have the registration card included? Once the registration is completed you will be sent an amnesty upgrade to pro tools 7.4 which will then allow you to install 7.4.2 which is leopard compatible.

If your macbook is fairly new and came with leopard then going back to tiger isn't an option, i've tried it and it don't work.

Cheers

Actually, you need a newer OS. 10.5.3 is the OS recommended for 7.4.2, and 10.5.4 has also been given the OK for Pro Tools.

Pro Tools Academic 7.1.1 software does not work with any of these:
  • Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
  • Intel-based Macs (like yours)
  • Digidesign interfaces (like the 002)
Pro Tools Academic 7.1.1 software requires an M-Audio interface:

Pro Tools Academic iLok Authorized Version

Pro Tools Academic Hardware Authorized Version

Not sure what Pro Tools version you have, but if it came with the 002, then it sounds like you were given the wrong version of Pro Tools by the dealer. You should check with them and ask if they gave you the software.

If the 002 came with no registration card or software, you can still get the latest software by purchasing the Pro Tools LE 7.4 upgrade on the DigiStore. Click on "Compatibility & Upgrades" at the top of the forum, then on the Pro Tools LE for Mac link.

Default Ok I see now

I got the academic from a friend because the 002 came with no software which is why i got it for 595. So it sounds like I need to hunt down different pro tools software, or just buy some, and update my operating system. Thanks for the help. PS im a total NEWB

You can buy Pro Tools for $75 on the Digistore.
