Default Re: 2018.7 So Far...

Just played a bunch of 88.2 sessions with a 128 buffer that occasionally stopped with the buffer warning in 2018.4. No problems with 2018.7. It seems more efficient. I was watching the System Core Usage and it seems like the rise/falls on the cores are smoother and faster.

I shutdown feeling optimistic. I'll try recording at a low buffer to see how that goes.

Default Re: 2018.7 So Far...

just finished installing PT2018.7 update on my Mac. when I open PT it throws up this error prompt

"Could not create a new document because Assertion in "/Volumes/Development/223020/ProTools/DFW/Views/UMenu.MacOS.mm", line 1813.

(Use the Copy button to copy this message to the clipboard.). "

then when you try yo open a session it throws up.....

"the current playback engine does not support a sample rate of 96kHz"

when you try to open "Setup>Playback Engine" it throws up....

"the current playback engine does not support a sample rate of 44.1kHz"

Pro Tools has become completely unusable

Does launching with the N key down (to select the Playback Engine) help? Sounds like a mismatch with the Engine and hardware/driver. More info on OS and hardware/driver please?

Yup thanks that fixed it. I actually had to reinstall the driver for my UR44 as the after the update to 2018.7 was perform the driver was gone from my machine. so I reinstalled and that when I got the issues I posted above about.

anyways holding "N" down while I launched PT fixed it. I closed down and shut down and restarted to test and all is still good.

thanks again.... thought I might have to uninstall and reinstall 2018.4

It would be nice if there was more information from Avid regard what it is about the OS that is causing the performance issues. I realize that this may be a complex issue, but the reality is that both Apple and Microsoft are getting aggressive about inducing people to update to later versions at a faster pace. It's no longer realistic for a DAW vendor to simply throw their hands up and say that an OS revision is not supported nearly six months after its general release.
If anyone is interested, it took a lot of searching, but a kind soul at steinberg forums gave me 10.13.2 full installer. I had located one previously here, but the mac wouldn't open it as said it wasn't a signed file (naughty naughty uploader). This one is 100% legit and works.

I am happy to upload it to my dropbox for a while (just a free account) if anyone needs it, i have tested it, works perfectly, sierra recognizes is as the legit installer, no warning pop ups.

it will take me ages due to 2.5 mb/s upload so give me a day I guess.. if you really want it let me know and i'll start uploading now! This will work on any imac pro as imac pro's first came with 10.13.2 :) Then you would just need the 10.13.3 imac pro specific update and you'll have the best high sierra DAW experience possible.

Same Here! It's much more stable even at lower latency. Also the new features are a nice addition.

I am running still the 2018.4 on 10.13.3 Mac and Very stable ... I am gonna stick to it for now unless there is something drastic in this release that I don't see here .... I just hope they will support the latest 10.13 release so we can update

1. On the Mac, you can install as many versions of PT as you like by simply renaming the app before running the new installer.

2. Type Ahead for plugins and busses, etc alone is worth the update IMO.
