Right on the money Lucian!
You should choose speakers that make you do "the right things" to your recordings and mix.

That is always the most important criteria for me....so actually you can judge your speakers better when you hear your results played on the radio or in the car etc ...or by the feedback your mastering engineer gives you

I use Tannoy Reveals as close, and Genelec 1032 with 1092 sub as mains.

Interesting seeing the Quested praises here… I know a of an album or two that had to be remixed because the Questeds sounded SO good that the mixes didn't translate to the outside world! Nearly had that experience myself with Westlakes.

Oli P's words are very wise… make sure your monitors are making you do the right thing to your music. Also, as you're mixing, refer to 2 or 3 different monitor sizes placed in different areas of the room.… (even cheap ones that you KNOW WELL will answer some questions). If you're mix room's acoustics are suspect (who's aren't, to some degree at least), then listening in a couple different rooms can help you fine tune things. Good luck.

Warmest Regards,
Brian

HD-1 is definitely the right choice if you can afford. Genelec also give good results for and it costs much less than HD-1. I got 1031a,1030a(genelec) and HD-1 in the studio. I prefer HD-1 most of the time. Quested's specification is so horrable (+/- 6dB). Westlake sounds so punch, but you won't hear the same thing else where.

I've got the HR824's and to me they sound like Genelec's. Very smooth, not fatiguiging at all to listen to. And for the price, yeeha!
