"....adds initial support..."

Guess for those with new machines...but some caveats there.

Mostly to do with certain video codecs, but seems that for audio, it's theoretically solid.

I have used PT for a long time, but my usage is sporadic. I've been on a MacBook for 5 or 6 years, and I just cannot get the knack of having the .0 download when I need it. I knew PT didn't work on 10.5, so I waited. Now the announcement for support is here, but wait... it's 10.15.1! Guess what? You can't download 10.15.0 in order to get 10.15.1 now. There's no "combo update" like there is for 10.15.2.

I know this is all my own doing (and undoing). If someone has a method they use to make it easier to move forward with mac os updates and keep PT working, I'm all ears. By the time 10.15.2 is supported by PT, we'll only be able to get 10.15.5 from Apple.

Go to the Software Update preference pane; you'll be given the ability to do a full install of Catalina 10.15.2, no need for anything earlier to be installed first.

It would seem to be a much better idea to me to download the Catalina installer from the App Store, use it to install on a new partition/container (e.g. create a container with Disk Utility, just run the installer you downloaded and when it asks what you want to do pick to install to that container, not upgrade your current system) and then boot off that install and install Pro Tools 2019.12 and basic drivers needed and test stuff works, then reinstall plugins, etc. and test as you go. If it does not you just reboot back to your currently working system.

Not only can you recover in a reboot, but fresh clean installs of Mac OS are a safer bet than in-situ upgrades (which is why Avid does not recommend them), since you know you are getting an install closer to what Avid actually tested on.... upgrading in-situ you old crusty old moldy system... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm just going to crack open a few beers and sit back and read about people crying about stuff not working (and especially having no way to back out...).

You can also download it from the App Store and specify a drive to install it on; I have a Catalina install on an external SSD for testing purposes.

I would love to know if HDX runs on the new Mac Pro. I know it says it's not supported, but I'm wondering if that's because it hasn't been tested.
