More important: Standalone App or Pro Tools window?

Provided the Stand Alone app would open and interact seamlessly with the 11R while Pro Tools was open then it would not matter that it was run outside. And in reality it would save a bit of time waiting for the window to open in PT. I would applaud #2 It's one less strain on PT, and not tied to the Pro Tools window.

Added a comment here to encourage customers to join this discussion. Standalone Editor is the top feature request for ER on IdeaScale, but moving it out of PT hasn't been part of the discussion there.

Would option #2 require an iLock dongle to launch? - i.e. is it _that_ separate from ProTools?

As has been stated, a stand-alone editor is the #1 request on IdeaScale. There has long been a displeasure among users in having to dig up their iLok and start ProTools just to backup or load rigs. Going by past discussions I've read here and on other forums (fora?), I think you're going to see an overwhelming majority of users wanting a stand-alone editor, outside of PT.

Of course, you could meet all demands by leaving the existing editor window in ProTools, AND publish the stand-alone editor, or even have the either\or choice presented to the user at install time.

Option two: STAND ALONE EDITOR.

Stand alone app. On OS X and Windows. Do not require a dongle and allow the app to run without the Eleven Rack to browse through presets and explore the UI (like the AxeFX Edit does today). Get something out ASAP then maybe later Include the ability to upload/share presets.

I would like to keep the track embedding feature as well (and there have to be ways of doing that through Pro Tools to the external app).
