Default bus1&2 to external FX on 002

hi

Can anyone give me any tips on how to use bus 1&2 to external effects ?

It seems to me that this has to be routed to analogue out 1&2, but PT don't let me do this, cause An1&2 goes to the master..

thanks
all the best,
g

i'm not sure if i fully understand what you're asking, but in my experience you can't directly route bus1-2 out to an external box. Busses are for use within protools.

what i do is make an aux with i/o going to the external box (maybe use Audio 7&8, that's what i use) then you can do sends on audio tracks bussed to the aux track.

hope that makes sense,
JE

Unfortunately I don't think you are wrong.

Without utilizing the lightpipe i believe you are stuck with 6.

Although I could be wrong...

But what if you need to route eight send/returns to external effects (inn addition to the digital outs) ?

bus 1/2 (an 1/2) send/return can't be used because of the master out. That leaves ne with only 6 analogue send/returns (3-8)

or....? please tell me I am wrong!! i need eight

I want to use send/return to external fx device through bus 1&2 routed through analogue in/out 1&2

In the reviews for the 002, I've read that is has eight send/returns - but this is as far as I can understand wrong, since analogue 1&2 has to be used for the master.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Analogue 1&2 does not have to be the Master outs. You decide what the master outs will be. Try the i/o section and/or clicking on the box that assigns outputs (in the mix window for example).

For example, you could have the Master output to s/pdif and use external converters for monitoring. Or, you could have a lightpipe device (eg Lucid or Apogee or RME) attached and have an additional 8 channels to send and return external fx. Or monitor your Master output through this device.

I hope I haven't used too much jargon for you at this stage. There is lots of flexibility with the 002, you just need to try a few more things, read the manual, experiment and enjoy!

Best regards,

Haigbabe

oh wait,
isn't there a separate monitor out on the back of 002 (i'm not in front of mine) that monitors all outputs?

i'm confused now.
